Role Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Engineering Group and will be responsible for delivery of AES projects ranging from conceptual efforts to integrated design-build projects. Single or multiple project assignments may be required. The Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
The Mechanical Engineer will act as the Lead mechanical engineer on small to medium sized complexity projects and act as a supporting engineer for larger projects. This role will be Engineer of Record for projects where they are the Lead engineer.
Principal areas of responsibility include performing engineering calculations, developing HVAC designs, mechanical equipment selections, performing reviews for building/life safety code compliance and EU/FDA/USP regulatory compliance. This role will also support proposal development activities and construction administration activities.
Involved in client relationship management, including creating a positive experience that will lead to future work. They will be responsible for developing a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, trust, and inclusivity at the project level. This includes the ability to manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others on the project team.
Qualifications: Education and Experience (Required and Preferred)
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (alternatively, a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option)
- 5+ years of experience required in either a design or construction capacity.
- Professional Licensure or Pathway to Licensure (Preferred)
- Life science experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other MS Applications
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering and Design
- On projects where they are the Lead engineer, they will act as the Engineer of Record for the project and act as the mechanical point-of-contact for clients, other disciplines, and pre-construction services.
- Lead Engineer on mechanical-focused engineering studies that culminate in creating a technical report deliverable.
- Complete a complex project code analysis, plan and prepare bid/permit/construction deliverables (including details and specifications).
- Perform engineering calculations, develop HVAC designs, and oversee mechanical equipment selections.
- Perform reviews for EU/FDA/USP regulatory compliance.
- Support proposal development activities including development of high-level mechanical design, support for estimating, and creating content for proposals.
- Travel as required for site survey, engineering studies, or client meetings.
- Perform construction administration activities including subcontractor management, submittal review, and RFI review.
Quality Assurance
- Perform peer review quality checks that follow the AES quality management standards.
- Implement best practices for system design and development with the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Leadership and Mentorship
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and designers to foster professional growth.
- Conducts improvement activities to serve our clients, increase staff skills, and improve execution.

- Strong problem-solving skills to address design challenges effectively.
- Ability to make complex decisions where most alternatives are not covered by existing standards and precedent. Therefore, a moderate degree of interpretation, judgment and discretion are to make independent decisions.
- Strong teamwork abilities to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Proactive in seeking input and feedback from colleagues to enhance design outcomes.
- Have a high level of organizational skills necessary for coordinating complex projects.
- Frequently working on varied and non-standard work depending on priorities and project deadlines.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills (written and verbal); strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to receive coaching and provide mentorship for junior staff.
- Moderate level of creative thinking to solve problems. May create deliverables or procedures to meet the need and understand project implications and potential solutions.
- Willingness to stay current with industry trends and incorporate new technologies. Attends internal and external professional development training events as available.
