Role Summary
The Design Project Manager will be part of the Engineering Group team and will be responsible for design delivery of AES projects ranging from conceptual efforts to integrated design-build projects. Single or multiple project assignments may be required. The Design Project Manager will report directly to the VP of Engineering and help drive the growth of design project management capabilities at AES.
The Project Manager is responsible for the direction and performance of design services for assigned project(s), ensuring work is performed in conformance with project objectives and requirements, project performance metrics (e.g., client satisfaction, profitability), and quality requirements.
Principal areas of responsibility include control and reporting, project staffing, adherence to quality plan, project budget, project schedule, safety, subcontractor management, and change management.
Responsible for client relationship management, including creating a positive experience that will lead to future work. They will be responsible for developing a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, trust, and inclusivity at the project level. With the goal of maximizing results by increasing employee engagement, productivity, and overall project performance.
Qualifications: Education and Experience (Required and Preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering (from accredited program) – preferred
- Related fields of study (Architectural Engineering, etc.) is also acceptable
- 7+ Years Experience as a PM and/or a related firm
- Proficient in PM tools such as Microsoft Project and/or Primavera (P6)
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and other MS Applications
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Business Acquisition and Proposal Development:
- Work with inside sales services to generate detailed proposals in response to client RFPs
- Work with Design department managers for resource allocation and project budgets
- Attends pre-bid meetings with clients and client interviews
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with business leaders and functional department leaders with engineering group to develop and align to broader business objectives on an annual basis.
- Work closely with Pre-construction, Supply Chain, and Construction teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Work closely with engineering and BIM/VDC disciplines to ensure projects are well-coordinated.
Project-Level Responsibilities:
- Developing Project Execution Plans (PEPs), Manpower Plan, Schedule, Fee Spreadsheet, and Earned Value Tracking.
- Managing overall project deliverables in accordance with the PEP, budget, schedule, and Quality Plan.
- Leading internal and external project team meetings and generating and issuing project monthly reports.
- Directing weekly and day-to-day activities of project technical staff.
- Identifies risks to the project and corporation and works with Executives and Operations team to mitigate risks.
- Prepares monthly financial/schedule reports for the Client and Internal Stakeholders
- Managing client relationships and being responsible for client satisfaction.
- Accountable for project design financial performance.
Continuous Improvement:
- Assists in identifying and developing innovative methods for improving project management processes and techniques against current SOPs.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced Project Managers and Project Engineers.
Quality Assurance:
- Develops project quality in conjunction with Department Managers and Discipline Leads.
- Assist and support the development of quality management system improvements.

- Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage

- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills (written and verbal); strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients
- Ability to receive coaching and provide mentorship for staff.
- Have a high level of organizational and management skills necessary for coordinating complex projects, working with teams, and executing short- and long-term goals.
